JSawyer Custom Converse
Recently my sister dearest was doing a little online shopping and came across the Converse customization option, which I know is nothing really new, but since she emailed me the link, I had to check it out. About two and a half minutes later, my creation was finito. Have a look see at what I conjured up... -JSawyer

My Life Lately
Lately I have been pondering/day dreaming/planning/reminiscing about life. Sounds so cliche or stereotypical, but I feel it considerably necessary to evaluate yourself every so often. It could be me nearing my quarter life crisis or possibly just some acid indigestion, but I've noticed myself feeling a bit more aged as of late. With that in mind, I have made a heady decision and commitment to myself to be "grind minded" from here on out. Every decision or crossroads that is put in my path, will be deciphered under dyer scrutinization and heart felt help form above. A willingness to sacrifice that of the material in order to one day obtain my goals and dreams is an attitude I have had to re-teach myself over and over the past couple weeks. When we say no to a "golden" opportunity which bares a hint of silver lining, often times an even better one will present itself. Let your dreams be your motivation. $$$$ - this will blur your vision. -JSawyer

Rant Directed at Higher Learning
So in order for me to be awarded the opportunity to fill the paper, I first need a piece of paper from a medium of "higher learning" where they supposedly instruct and prep me with the tools in which to fill that initial paper with. Never mind the simple fact that I just might already obtain the tools needed to be a more colorful creator than they have ever dreamt of.
I understand the proverbial protocol, I really do. But pardon me if I do not deem it necessary for myself to receive a piece of paper that tells me I am knowledgeable and persistent in a certain area. Have we not progressed from the days of the "conventional" after high school experience? Of course, it benefits, shapes, molds multitudes of individuals, but just as I have the choice of paper or plastic, automatic or manual, cash or credit, there is always an alternative or albeit sometimes better option.
And now to address the question that is no doubt burning deep within your cranial cortex. Yes, I went to college. I spent roughly three or so years there and have no regrets with my time spent. I do feel however, that with just about that same allotted time out of school, I have learned and grown leaps and bounds above the bar that was set within the constraints of the university system.
We are all snowflakes, yes. No one person can trod down the exact same path as the other, but I am just speaking on my experiences and where I stand today. As most say, maybe I will be humming a different tune when I'm in my forties or whenever I am blessed with little ones. But for now, this is my conviction, and I'm sticking to it! Bring on the negative feedback.... -JSawyer

I love you all.

Affirmation, check!
Recognition is a funny thing. We all want it, whether admittedly or not. We yearn for it from the right people, however. Some are fully motivated merely by that of acknowledgement on the far end. And others obtain a sincere appreciation from it and use it as further motivation in their craft. Affirmation to me has not always been necessary, but when coming from the appropriate individual, I soak it up as a means to put things in perspective. Being a creative mind, with the gift of making a connection through written word, it is tough to see the light or fruits of my labor at times.
Recently, I was paid a truly inspiring compliment from one of the most influential innovators of the blogging and creative world. Marcus Troy, who in my mind runs the illest blog out there, probably did not even realize the impact his small statement would have on me. Something as small as a shoutout on twitter has given me a renewed jolt of inspiration and a firm shot in the arm of motivation. My sincerest appreciation goes out to Marcus and his kind words. Be sure to check him out daily at marcustroy.com. -JSawyer

Attention rd Readers!!!
OC'ed - I sincerely apologize that your boy has been out of commission for the last week or two. Due to the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I did however, get to enjoy some quality family time that was undoubtedly long over due. But now that I'm back to my regular day to day, it's time to get back on the grind and shake things up a bit. A make over for rd is definitely in the works and an expansion site could be coming to fruition as well. So bare with me people as I resume my A game and work on giving you guys some new marvels.

My Take on Christmas '09
Thoughts directed to my dear family regarding Christmas 2009:
Growing up, it's not uncommon for most children to hear from their parents in so many words or less that the older you get, the less and less you will be concerned with receiving literal, material gifts on Christmas. Now of course at the age of sixteen even, I was still stoked on the latest gadget or newest pair of kicks that jolly old saint Nick was to deliver to me on that blessed holiday. So like most parental advisings, it was somewhat shrugged off, and I would think to myself… but I love me some "stuff!" Just as usual however, the intellectuality and oh so profound wisdom flowing forth from the parental well springs of knowledge did so come to fruition. Although it did take a bit longer than maybe even I myself had suspected in the back of my head, the true essence of family and the holidays are so dear to me this year.
Being that I have been away from most of my family for the past few years, I do cherish the short gatherings that I am blessed with, especially as sparse as they may be. I do often regret the distance that separates us all, but I am confident that with our small, tight knit family, we are as near and dear to one another's hearts as humanly possible. So as I began to ponder on this holiday season and actually having the opportunity of spending more than 36 hours with the ones I love most in this world, I felt an overwhelming sense of excitement, as well thankfulness. I now can without a doubt say that "toys" no longer serve precedent as part of my Christmas experience. My gifts, when broken down to the core, past all of the commercialization and greedy "me" mentalities are stripped down to a handful of people, most of which just so happened to share my last name. I do not essentially believe that we can ever ultimately shed all of our selfish nature, but I do believe that I am to the closest state of selflessness when it comes to my family.
Separated by generations, and even the kids being so diverse and eclectic to each his own world, understanding is not always possible, but unconditional love and support is undeniably the backbone and key ingredient that encompasses the Sawyer family. Normalcy, in any regard but especially involving family, is never present, and I don't know about you, but I would hate it if it were! Without tests, trials, hardships, and highs and lows, we would not truly appreciate the supportive aspect of family and coming together in love when all is said and done. For without these things, there would be no "victories" in life even.
So this holiday season, I hope all of you, just as I myself have, experienced the true, raw meaning and appreciation of family and Christmas when it has been stripped from its commercialized shell or wrapping paper if you will. Mom, Dad, Mandi, Daniel, Becca, and Papa and Nene, you are truly God's most amazing Christmas gifts that have been so intricately placed in my life, gifts that continually present themselves in a thousand different lights. My overwhelming love goes out to you all.
Merry Christmas,
Jonathan - 12/25/2009

"Who Can We Look To?" (Lil Wayne Incident)
So Weezy is to do a year behind bars due to gun possession. Talented individual, I have no argument there. I am a fan of some of his work, but we should be careful who we idolize. We can respect such artists, just as that, artists. As far as human beings with a fine moral compass, that is where we have to use our better judgment. Of course, all people make mistakes, but at some point we must look to others as "heroes." I would really rather not go into this huge rant because I am a big fan of hip hop and music in general, but I did feel it necessary to make a short post about the latest news coverage. I encourage all of my readers, as well as my self, to daily evaluate those that you place on a pedestal. -JS

You were all of me
So that in you I see
Hopes and dreams tucked away
Better days were yesterday
But now

Story Time With J - "Mesmerizing Performance"
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Oh, thank you thank you. You're far too kind." I project confidently in Jay-Z voice. Then with one last glimpse in the mirror, I scrape that pesky piece of leftover food from last nights dinner off my gum, and I'm good to go. Que my intro music. Oh wait, that's when I have to start humming. Is that the Beatles "Day Tripper" coming from my lips? Oh well, whatever works! Towel drops, boom! I ever so smoothly lift my right leg over the fifteen inch ledge, followed by my left. And I'm in. The crowd goes wild! A couple deep breaths as I adjust my overhang mic. One knob, two, knob, three knob. That's it; the water's just fine...
Okay okay. You guys are probably wondering what in the world is this dude talking about!? Sounds like wishful thinking of some sort of stage performance, huh? Well, something like that, but this is literal! I decided to give my readers out there my top 5 songs to belt out in the shower! Make sense now? Well here they are...
And there you have it, ladies and gents! Please oh please, no scrutinizing my list. Simply take me for who I am, haha. Feel free to message me your top five, and maybe I can work out a new segment for the blog one day... -JS

"Five Directions at Once"
It seems that my checklist of dreams continues to grow longer and longer.
So many things that I truly believe are within my grasp,
but how do I narrow them down.
Am I naive enough to believe that I can capture all of my dreams at once?
Where do I begin?
Which path will take me there?
Because A to B, rarely do you see.
I strap my boots up each day, one at a time.
I journey forward with new tasks and new goals to explore.
A guiding light, leading me all the way.
Staying focused on the prize, I will overcome.

???
What's going through my head
Can't even place one thought
Not even half way there
Lost
Struggling
Searching
For the switch
My mind won't let me rest
But rest it will have to do
Nothing's coming together today
All may as well come unglued
I hate the thought of losing
Defeat is for the weak
Can't even say I lost tonight
I never entered the game
Why
Why
Why
Even now
As I am writing
Sense I do not make
What useless tool all is to me
Constantly at a loss...
Can't even place one thought
Not even half way there
Lost

Searching
